Engineering the Perfect Case
Creating a Fifty Fathoms case requires a precise balance between heritage, proportions, and functionality. As the collection has evolved from its original 45 mm case to include 42 mm versions — and more recently a 38 mm diameter, the development of each new size has required far more than merely reducing the diameter. Every proportion — from the case profile and lugs to the bezel and dial — has been carefully rebalanced to preserve the unmistakable presence, harmony, and character of the Fifty Fathoms.
Faithful to its origins as a professional diving instrument, the Fifty Fathoms remains water-resistant to 30 bar, combining everyday versatility with the technical performance expected from a true diver’s watch.

Developing the Manufacture Calibre
At the heart of the Fifty Fathoms in 42 mm beats Blancpain's Manufacture calibre 1315. Entirely conceived, developed, produced, finished, and assembled within the Maison, this movement is distinguished by its exceptional robustness. Engineered for optimal performance, it offers an impressive 5-day power reserve and features a silicon balance spring, ensuring exceptional precision and resistance to magnetic fields.

Finishing the movement
Beyond its robustness, and mechanical performance, calibre 1315 showcases the traditions of Haute Horlogerie. Visible through the sapphire case back, the movement reveals Blancpain’s dedication to artisanal excellence, with bridges and components decorated by hand, using techniques such as perlage, and snailing. The solid 18K gold oscillating weight further reflects this dedication to craftsmanship, combining technical efficiency with aesthetic refinement.
Creating the Signature Domed Sapphire Bezel
The Fifty Fathoms’ unidirectional bezel is one of its most distinctive technical signatures. In 2003, Blancpain pioneered the use of a sapphire insert for a diving bezel, combining exceptional scratch resistance with enhanced readability. The domed construction creates depth and exceptional clarity while serving the functionality required for underwater timing.
