Sepang | Debut of Super Trofeo Asia Series


Blancpain is all set for the grand debut race of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series at the Sepang International Circuit on May 25-26-27, after a promising official pre-test at the world renowned F1 track last week. The supercar race series in Asia will be held in partnership with Blancpain, the luxury Swiss watchmaker and the European series’ title sponsor.

Following three successful seasons in Europe since 2009, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Championship will for the first time also run on the tracks of six of the highest standard racing circuits across Asia, including Sepang, Fuji, Ordos, Zhuhai, Penbay and Shanghai for the Grand Finale in November. The 2012 season will see teams from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and mainland China push the raw power of the Super Trofeo to its very limits.

Lamborghini’s racing bull, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, is a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP560-4, boasting a power output of 560 hp from its V10 engine. Commenting on the super race car’s performance at the official pre-test, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. Director of Research & Development Maurizio Reggiani said: “With its permanent four-wheel drive, reworked chassis and use of super lightweight technologies, the Super Trofeo race car embodies perfectly Lamborghini’s extreme, uncompromising and Italian core brand values. “

The Asia racing series is open to Gentlemen drivers who will compete in two separate 50 minutes races at each stop, following 35 minutes long qualifying races determining the drivers’ starting positions in the rolling start. Each team can comprise up to two drivers, who will have more than extreme-speed on their agenda, as a compulsory change of driver from minute 20 to minute 30 into the race will require carefully thought-out strategies for teams of mixed experience to secure victory.
