The inaugural weekend of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series in North America opened with a flying start in front of a large 4th of July weekend crowd at Lime Rock, CT.
With three days of searing sunshine, the heat was certainly on as The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series took to the track for the first time on North American soil. Featuring lightweight versions of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4, the maiden weekend was a roaring success. The all wheel drive, 570hp cars and their drivers delivered thrilling high-speed passes and exhilarating race action throughout.
Following Friday’s race, the competition today improved further still, with a number of high-octane, overtaking maneuvers. The opening stages saw second place starter Richard Antinucci come into the pits on lap one, as pole leader Davis/Eversley for Lamborghini Beverly Hills embarked on an epic duel with Kevin Conway, driving for Lamborghini Carolinas and Change Racing. The pair exchanged lead position three times in the opening 10 laps.
The battles continued through the race before a late pitstop for Davis/Eversley allowed, Alex Welch driving for the Lunacy Boutique sponsored Lamborghini Santa Monica, to move into first position. A lead he did not relinquish.
Alex said, “It’s just an incredible feeling to win this race, especially given the quality of drivers competing. The car and the team performed exceptionally well. We were consistent but a little fortunate that Lee and Ryan had to make a late stop. It's been great to be involved with Lamborghini's first race in the US!”
Series Coordinator Tristan Herbert added, “The success of the opening weekend is testament to all the hard working people at Lamborghini and our partners who got the cars to the grid and delivered an exceptional start to the Blancpain Super Trofeo Series in North America. I’d like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and dedication to making the series a success. We now look forward to the next race in Kansas Motor Speedway.”
The results from Saturday’s Race two saw Alex Welch secure First in both classes as amateur driver, with Kevin Conway taking second and Davis/Eversley third in the Overall Standings with Lee Carpentier and Hollywood actor/director, Dax Shepard taking second and third respectively in the Amateur Class.
Dax Shepard commented, “It’s great to get on the podium but it has been a phenomenal weekend. Just to be here and get to drive competitively in a Lamborghini at the first ever US race, was a blast!”
With history made, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series will remember an extraordinary North American debut at Lime Rock. The Series will move forward with more of the same, thrilling action and unparalleled hospitality at Kansas Motor Speedway on 17/18 August.
