For the third Super Trofeo competition, Blancpain brought its high-speed Gallardo LP560-4 to the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium. Held alongside the SPA 24 Hours(part of the FIA GT championship), a race featuring some of the world’s greatest car drivers, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo completed the first half of a spectacular season. Blancpain also salutes the third participation of its President and CEO, Marc A. Hayek, racing in the company of co-driver Peter Kox from The Netherlands. The two experienced drivers took third place in the 1st race of this leg.
The third racing weekend, organised within the context of the international FIA GT championship on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track, represents the midway mark in this year’s Super Trofeo season. For the occasion, Blancpain was once again firmly behind Marc A. Hayek, competing at the wheel of car no. 24, co-driven by famous racing driver Peter Kox. The world’s oldest watch brand salutes the energy and the time its President devotes to fine-tuning his driving skills and to honouring his commitment as the standard-bearer for the Manufacture. This personal involvement testifies to his firm belief in the importance of a partnership that goes well beyond mere co-branding to embody a genuine pooling of technological competence. For Marc A. Hayek, the ties between Blancpain and Lamborghini are self-evident: “Our companies share the same authentic character, the will to push back limits, boundless creativity and products that generate emotions. We delight in shaking up preconceived ideas by exercising our pioneering spirit. While enlightened innovators, we are also the guardians of a legacy of technical expertise dedicated to excellence.”
Witness the limited series of Blancpain Super Trofeo Chronographs that give pride of place to innovative materials, starting with the case made in DLC-treated steel and featuring a design inspired by the front profile of the Gallardo. Water-resistant to 100 metres, this case is distinguished by alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces. The 308-part mechanical self-winding chronograph movement, Calibre F185, is equipped with a flyback function and endowed with a 40-hour power reserve. To reinforce its dynamic character, the movement has been coated by NAC – a state-of-the-art treatment that blackens the bridges and the plate. Sporty to the core, the Blancpain Super Trofeo Chronograph is fitted with a strap in alcantara – like the Gallardo upholstery – complete with a steel folding clasp.
Comprising six different events for the 2009 season, the Super Trofeo racing series stars a line-up of the brand-new Lamborghini Gallardo cars in a four-wheel drive racing version delivering 570 horsepower and 540 N/m (398 lb/ft) torque enabling them to reach top speeds of over 300 km/h. The last three racing weekends of the season are to be held at Silverstone (UK) on August 15th to 16th; Catalunya (Spain) on September 18th to 20th; and on the Paul Ricard track (France) from October 2nd to 4th.
