03 September 2008Cannes International Boat Show Limited Edition Fifty Fathoms
Marking Blancpain’s fourth consecutive appearance at the renowned Cannes International Boat show, Blancpain announces the creation of a special limited edition Fifty Fathoms Automatique timepiece which will debut with the show on September 10.
There is a strong bond between the Cannes International Boat Show and Blancpain. Last year, show furnished the backdrop for the official worldwide launch of Blancpain’s new Fifty Fathoms collection. Tracing its lineage over more than half a century to Blancpain’s original 1953 diving watch, recognized as the world’s first modern diving timepiece, the first thirty new Fifty Fathoms Automatique watches were brought to Cannes and offered to participants in the show. All thirty sold out at once. This year Blancpain has fashioned an exclusive edition of the Fifty Fathoms Automatique, which will be limited to but twenty pieces. This family member of last year’s Fifty Fathoms departs from the purposeful black dial, bezel, and strap which has characterized the model since its original introduction in 1953. Expressing a free spirit, the Cannes International Boat Show limited edition, identical in size to the other family members at 45mm, offers a stainless steel case, white dial, white sapphire bezel and white sailcloth strap. It is powered by the same caliber 1315 automatic winding movement as the non-limited series, featuring three main spring barrels, free sprung balance with gold regulation screws and five day power reserve. However, whereas the non-limited Fifty Fathoms is equipped with antimagnetic shielding and solid case back, the Cannes International Boat Show edition, dispenses with the shielding and, thus, offers a sapphire case back allowing view of the hand finished movement. Tying the limited series to the show, the winding rotor has been fashioned in the shape of a ship’s wheel. Completing the ensemble, the Cannes Edition is furnished with a rugged orange waterproof box suitable for sporting use. http://www.salonnautiquecannes.com |
