Split-seconds chrono

The split-seconds chronograph mechanism records split times by means of its split-seconds hand, which then catches up to the chronograph hand.

Anticipating the achievements of the automotive and then the electronics industries, watchmakers in 1811 invented the coupling-clutch and an associated mechanical memory that signalled the creation of the split-seconds chronograph.

Intermediate times

When the first runner passes, the right button enables the operator to stop the split-seconds hand and read the intermediate time, while the chronograph hand continues to move.

Subdials

The 30-minute and 12-hour subdials can be started and stopped simply by actioning one of the pushpieces. The date is shown in a dial window at 6 o'clock.

Movement

In 1988 Blancpain went one step further with the design and production of the world's thinnest split-seconds chronograph movement.
